Slinkachu is his stage name, his real name is unknown as he wants to remain anonymous. Slikachu is a London based photographer/artist, he is not a ordinary photographer he makes his photos special by using his imagination. His photos are remarkably detailed, and the best thing about them is that they all have a story behind them. He started his 'Little Peoples Project' in 2006. Followed by his 'inner city snail project' (a slow moving art project).
Slinkachu's little people project; Analysis.
This is one of my favourite photos taken by slinkachu for the little peoples project. He achieved his aim which was to put across the loneliness that people can feel when living in a big city, you can almost see the loneliness being expressed by the little person in the big city. The story behind this picture is simply someone that is trying to flag down a cab, which is something that we see quite regularly, who would have thought such a simple thing could turn into a wonderful piece of art?
This photo is definitely different from the others,which is good because we all like to see something different when we look at art. Slinkachu used his imagination. In this photo he has captured a little superhero figure getting ready to fly/jump. Slinkachu has made this photo fun and interesting,the camera skills he has used are good because just the figure and the bin is in focus and the background is all blurred as he's used a small depth of field. This really creates effect.
Isaac Cordal
Isaac Cordal is a photographer/artist with a style very similar to Slinkachu. Cordal Uses little people to create his photographs but in a different way because he creates more fear whereas Sinkachu creates humour. Cordal's project is called 'Cement eclipses',in his project he shows that he is sympathetic towards little people. He creates tragic scenes such as funerals,accidental deaths or even suicide.

My Little Peoples Project:
I decided to try and take on Slinkachu's style of photography, I am going to start my own little peoples project by using small figures and different techniques.
Take 1;
Plan; The aim of this photo is to create a story where the guy is locked out. I chose this door because its the same colour as the figure and it makes the lock stand out. I want the keyhole and the figure to be in focus.
Worst;
This is worst one because the main focus point of the picture is too high up and there's space at the bottom. You can also see the blue-tac clearly. It's over exposed and looks out of focus.
Best:
This is the best one because you can see the figure and keyhole, I haven't used as many camera techniques so that is something I need to do in my next photo shoot. The colours also influence the photo, it's almost camouflaged .
Take 2;
Plan: I will use my own ideas for this shoot to make it creative. I will make 3 figures with plasticine.
Photoshop;
Worst:
Best:
This photo is the best because it has the perfect exposure and focus point, the angle is good for this image as you can see everything clearly. This shoot has allowed me to be more creative, I made the little figures myself,however I think the whole 'Slinkachu' aspect was lost. Next time I will stick to using the normal figures.
TAKE 3;
Plan; I will be using one small figure, which I will place on a leaf. The figure will be pretty relaxed. I want the people to think that he is in deep thought. I will use F6 as my aperture.
WORST;
This photo is under exposed. It doesn't have no main focus point, it seems as if it's all over the place,when you look at it you don't really know what to look at. I couldn't really tell where the focus point was.
BEST;
This is my favourite photo. You can clearly see the figure and the leaf which it's sat on. The rest of the background is faded because we don't really want to look at that as it's not the focus of the picture. I'm happy with this because it's not under exposed, I think it's just right.
Take 4:
Plan; I am going to create a photo where there is a man gardening, I will use a small DOF. For this photo I will use a small figure with a garden hoe, I will use the flower patches as the settings. My Aim is to get the meaning of the photo across and for people to understand what he is actually doing.
Worst ;
This image is the worst one, it's not awfully bad but the figure,the main thing in the picture, isn't actually in focus and neither is anything else apart from the soil closest to the camera. I used the wrong depth of field. In my next take I will take caution and use the best DOF to suit my photograph.
Best:
This image is the best one because it gets the point a cross and you can clearly see the figure. I really like the depth of field used on this photo because it creates effect and the story behind it is simple so everyone would understand what's going on in it. I followed my plan on this photo and it has turned out as expected.
Take 5:
Plan: I will use a fire alarm for this shoot to help create a certain scenario.
Worst:
Best;
This is the best picture because the focus point and exposure are perfect, you can clearly see what's going on.
Take 6:
Plan; I will use a toy tiger, a slinkachu man and some red paint to create a death scene. I will try to use other props as well and consider the settings.
Worst;
This picture is so out of focus due to camera shake. All you can see is a blurred colours, you can't make out the figures at all. Next time I will need to make sure my hands are more stable while taking photos.
Best;
This is my favourite photo because of the worms eye view. I have used a medium depth of field which creates more effect. I think the background suits the picture,as I have used a tiger, it looks more realistic.
This photo is great because I like the angle I have used. We can see the Slinkachu man and the tiger, it goes well with the real background, in my next shoot I will use more props such as posters and signs.
Take 7;
Plan; For this take I will use 2 figures and the leaver thing of a can. My aim is to create a building site/job where a builder is disappearing . I am planning on using a medium depth of field while getting both figures in focus.
Worst;
I think that this photo isn't great because it doesn't look realistic; I have used too much blue-tac, I feel as though the story was lost. The DOF is good, I thought it had supported the photo and created effect. I think I should take more photos.
Best;
In my opinion this is the best photo because it was taken from a different angle and the depth of field was spot on you can also see the story behind this pic, the builder is disappearing through the hole. It seems as if one is trying to save the other one. I also used a medium DOF, everything else is faded out.
Take 8;
Plan; For this take I will create a suicide scenario where a man is about to jump, I am going to use a suicide letter, this might make the story clearer and it will be like extra detail.
WORST:
This photo is over exposed and this creates the wrong type of effect. The lamp post stands out more than the figure and letter.
Best:
This is one of the best photos because the story behind it is clear. I have used a prop/Suicide note/letter, this adds a bit more detail to the pic and story behind it. I like the fact that the focus point is just on the letter,figure and lamp post. The background is completely blurred, even the traffic lights (which I think look pretty cool!) If I could change one thing it would be not to move my camera and to have a more steady grip on it.
This photo is similar to the one above expect I have taken it at different angle. It's a bit under exposed but I think rather than making the photo look too dark it created effect, because this is a suicide scenario I think that it's supposed to look a bit dark and gloomy as it's not exactly a happy moment. Sometimes it's necessary to make the photo a bit under exposed for effect which is what I have done here.
This shoot has been taken in the style of Isaac Cordal, I have used a common theme (suicide) that is used in a lot of his photographs. The only difference is that I have taken the photo before the suicide and he took it after.
Take 9;
Plan; I will use a Slinkachu man and a fake cigarette for this shoot, I will also make posters and signs to stick up behind.
Worst;
Best:
This is the best photo because everything is clear due to a high depth of field, the focus point was set all over. The exposure is also perfect. The angle which it was taken at also makes everything clear.
Evaluation:
I have really enjoyed Slinkachu as it has given me a chance to use different techniques and camera skills. Slinkachu has given me an insight to what photography is really about, It wasn't just about the techniques but also the creativity. I now understand how to plan for a shoot and how to be more creative. Overall I thought this was a fun way to begin Unit one and a fun start to photography!
